My work explores magik objects; charms, talismans, amulets and totems, with a key focus on their liminality in their ability to be in-between magic/spiritual worlds and our own, acting as a gateway. Stylistically I focus on hybridised monstrous beings, oniric creatures that combine elements of everyday life in unexpected ways, creating a surreal sense of occult, mystery and humour. I have created my own characters which exist as totemic sculptural pieces, and whose supernatural counterparts can be seen in my paintings, which I use to depict this other imaginary world. My work is surreal. I aim to create intrigue, strange uncomfortability and mystery, by creating unknowns which I do by removing elements that would allow a painting to make sense, creating these uncertain, incorrect, but familiar spaces.
