Angelica Hopton is a second year at Durham University studying Natural sciences. As part of that degree, she studies psychology. This interest transcribes into her portraiture, and can be seen through her focus on conveying inner states and emotion. Before starting her time at Durham, she studied at Camberwell, UAL, specialising in fine art and has continued to dedicate time alongside her degree, exploring new styles and doing commissions. She uses her instagram page (@angelica_hopton_art) as a platform to share her work with others. She experiments with new ideas inspired by her love of traveling and diversity of cultures. Her works explores and expresses individual personalities, emotion and culture through colour and brush strokes. Her work is greatly influenced by her experience of living in Qatar and Iran with works exploring topics such as the empowerment, freedom and oppression of women. She strives to portray the subjects in an honest way through researching their background, including political and religious contexts. Using Farsi text in some pieces alongside the portrait, has been a tool to convey a deeper message to the viewer.
